Band information:
The Paper Garden was an American psychedelic rock band formed in New York City, New York in 1967. After gathering a sizable following in the Northwest, the group recorded their only album, The Paper Garden, in 1968, which promoted several styles ranging from complex orchestration to hard-edged psychedelia. Following its release, the recordings have since become considered one of the more accomplished artistic statements from the psychedelic era.
Formed in 1967, the Paper Garden consisted of members Joe Arduino (bass guitar, vocals), Sandy Napoli (rhythm guitar, keyboards, sitar, vocals), Paul LoGrande (lead guitar, vocals), Jimmy Tirella (drums), and John Reich (keyboards). With varying talents as multi-instrumentalists, three capable singers, and accomplished songwriters in Arduino, Napoli, and LoGrande, the band almost effortlessly was able to expand upon the complex instrumentals found in the Beatles' Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Paper Garden toured all along the Northeast coast, establishing several pockets of followers in local college campuses. In 1968, the group garnered the interest of record producerGeoff Turner, who was working for Aaron Schroeder's New York-based Musicor Records. Under the assumption that the band would record matetial he heard onstage, Turner signed the Paper Garden to a recording contract, ambitious to produce a group he hoped was on the cutting-edge of psychedelia.
Rather than record the material from their live set, the Paper Garden decided to compose a whole new set of ambitious repertory. The album was much more elaborate and expensive to cut than Turner anticipated; however, he ultimately elected to recording it, complete with string orchestra arrangements, contributions by session trumpeteer, violinist, and trombonist, and intricate vocal harmonies. Music critic Beverly Patterson, writing for It's Psychedelic Baby! magazine voices that The Paper Garden album was "Clearly influenced by the psychedelic hoodoo practiced by the Beatles, trickles of the Idle Race, and the Bee Gees, and even the jolly jugband stylings of the Lovin’ Spoonful, further arise on 'The Paper Garden Presents,' resulting in a record that’s both playful and progressive". Upon release, The Paper Garden was met with positive reviews, but without a single or major record label to support it, the album was a commercial flop.
The Paper Harden disbanded in 1969, and for a while their album was left to lay in obscurity. However, in 2002, Gear-Fab Records released a remastered version of the album. It has since been followed by more reissues on Relics Records in 2012 and Sundazed Records in 2014. The renewed recognition of The Paper Garden has lead to many music critics to conclude the album is a well-executed piece from the psychedelic era.
One of the first bands that I've discovered. With only a single album released, these guys influenced many bands. "Thor the Thunder God", "My Soul and My Will", "Magic Potion" are great songs. Must-listen album for everyone interested in heavy/psychedelic rock.

Band information:
The band was formed in the mid 1960s by four musicians from Putney, South London. Initially named The Apaches formed by Tim du Feu, Mike Brancaccio and Philip Fox and their friend Ray Nye. Nye left in 1965 and another friend, Terry Schindler, joined instead. The band became The Drag Set, who released a little-known single in February 1967, "Day and Night" / "Get Out of My Way". Shortly thereafter, they changed their name to The Open Mind and in July 1969 released a self-titled LP which has since become a highly sought-after collectible. The band, however, is best known for its druggy August 1969 single, "Magic Potion", which did not appear on the album.
The Open Mind disbanded in 1973; its members wanted to move into jazz-influenced music, but The Open Mind was too well known as a psychedelic band. The band members (minus Phil Fox) went on to form Armada, which lasted about three years but did not release any recorded material.
Despite their paucity of recorded material, The Open Mind have proven to be influential in the psychedelic rock genre, their single "Magic Potion" having been covered by bands such as The Seers and Sun Dial.
O Canada! The Churls is a psychedelic rock band with great vocals and lead guitar. Their first and second albums are put together with 19 tracks. "City Lights", "Time piece", "Gypsy Lee", all songs that you might put on repeat for a whole day.

Spirits and Worm is one of the first bands I've discovered when I was first interested in psyche rock, probably some time after Iron Butterfly & Frijid Pink. Female vocals, heavy guitar work in a couple songs. The song "Spirits & Worm" is one of my all time favorites. If you have ever heard of the band Coven, you will love this band.
I wanted to have this legendary band on the blog and here it is. Quicksilver is dear to me. Here is all of their albums, with the exception of Solid Silver released in '75. There isn't much I can say about them as we all probably know the band. However they are still very underrated, I'd have never heard of them if I was never interested in psyche rock. Should have been on a hall of fame of some sort. John Cipollina, is also a favorite guitarist of mine, rest in peace tall man.
Album(s) information:
(1968) - Quicksilver Messenger Service
(1969) - Happy Trails
(1969) - Shady Grove
(1970) - Just for Love
(1971) - Quicksilver
(1972) - Comin' Thru
Band information:
Quicksilver Messenger Service gained wide popularity in the San Francisco Bay Area and through their recordings, with psychedelic rock enthusiasts around the globe, and several of their albums ranked in the Top 30 of the Billboard Pop charts. Though not as commercially successful as contemporaries Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver was integral to the beginnings of their genre. With their jazz and classical influences and a strong folk background, the band attempted to create an individual, innovative sound. Member Dino Valenti drew heavily on musical influences he picked up during the folk revival of his formative musical years. The style he developed from these sources is evident in Quicksilver Messenger Service's swung rhythms and twanging guitar sounds.
After many years, the band has attempted to reform despite the deaths of several members. Recently, original members Gary Duncan and David Freiberg have been touring as the Quicksilver Messenger Service, using various backing musicians.
This album has 20 songs, hard rock, heavy psychedelia, prog, everything you'd want. They surprised me by how heavy and mellow they were on different tracks. So many songs to really list here, but "Fragments", "Black Lily", "Get a Life", "Canyon Woman", "Flowing Robes", all left a surprising impression on me.
A great hard rock band Pulse, with psychedelic influence. Expect clean vocals and lots of lead guitar work. As almost all others, Pulse only has a single album released. "Another Woman", "Too Much Lovin'", "Hypnotized", "Lo-Down" all great songs.
Heavy psychedelia? Proto-prog? Plain hard rock? I can not decide. Keyboards and the guitar blend in well together in this album. Sadly there is no information about this band online. Overall, good album for those who like heavy stuff.
This album is a great mix of blues, psychedelic and progressive rock. One of the bands that I wish had more albums. The band name may be originated from Cream's "N.S.U.". Good vocals, good guitar work. From "bright" songs to "blues", it's all there. Songs "His Town" and "Love Talk" are my favorites. Below you'll listen to the song that gave the album it's name.
Mystic Tide, a band way ahead of their time. A psychedelic garage rock band, one of the best I dare say. This album was recorded between 1965 and 1969, it includes 18 tracks, most of them are favorites. You will find mellow tracks such as "I Wouldn't Care", and "Why". Then, you will find the hard stuff, "Frustration", "Mystic Ship" and "Psychedelic Journey". I love this band.
Album information:

2. Why
3. Stay Away
4. Search for New Love
5. Mystic Eyes
6. Frustration
7. Running Through the Night
8. Psychedelic Journey, Pt. 1

17. See the Light
18. Solid Ground
Band information:
The Mystic Tide were an American rock band who have been credited for creating some of the first psychedelicanthems. They have also been called one of the best garage bands of the mid 1960s.
The group formed on Long Island and released a total of four singles between 1965 and 1967, all of which were written by the band's guitar player, Joe Docko. The band broke up in 1967 after little commercial success. Many years later in 1994 Docko recorded some new material and that along with three demos, the band's four original singles, and their B-sides would be put out as a CD by Distortions records. Released more than 25 years after the group had disbanded,Solid Sound/Solid Ground, was the first and only album the band ever made.
Morgen is from the US. Their song "Welcome to the Void" may be known by many of you, but I wanted to include the whole album here. I love Steve Morgen's vocals, somehow reminds me of Kim Fowley. "Of Dreams" is my favorite song in the album.
Album information:
01 - Welcome To The Void
02 - Of Dreams
03 - Beggin Your Pardon (Miss Joan)
04 - Eternity In Between
05 - Purple
06 - She's The Nitetime
07 - Love
Band information:
60's psychedelic band originally from Long Island, New York. Led by Steven Morgen, who simply named his band Morgen. Good effort, though pretty obscure. Trippy grooves with a lot of stone vibe. Scary-horror themed songs. Nice creepy vocals and acid guitars . Also the Jazz Rock is here .
The original sole 1969 recording was recently re-released on Probe label on 180 gram vinyl. Worth searching out if you like this stuff. Steve Morgen released a rare low-selling album in the late '60s, simply titled Morgen, that's highly regarded by some collectors, particularly those who like a sound balanced between psychedelia and the beginning of hard rock.
Morgen sang and wrote all of the material, which was very much of its time in its overlong, sometimes clumsy nature.
Another favorite of mine, Love Sculpture. I have to say Dave Edmunds is a very underrated guitar player. You'll agree with me once you listen to their classic Farandole "cover". Found this gem of a band through their song "In The Land Of The Few". Love it ever since. Enjoy!
Love Sculpture was a British blues-rock band of the late 1960s, led by Dave Edmunds, plus bassist John Williams (born John David Williams, 19 January 1946, in Cardiff, Wales) and drummer Rob ‘Congo’ Jones (born Robert Jones, 13 August 1946, in Barry, South Wales).
They formed in Cardiff in 1966, and disbanded in 1970, although Edmunds went on to enjoy solo success in the 1970s. They are best known for their 1968 novelty hit, a cover version of the classical piece “Sabre Dance”, by Aram Khachaturian. Other songs included: “Land of the Few”, “Summertime” and “You Can’t Catch Me”.
Love Sculpture was notable primarily because of Edmunds’ subsequent success. The band itself was essentially a showpiece for Edmunds’ considerable technical ability on the guitar. Love Sculpture mostly performed blues standards, slightly revved-up, but still largely reverent to the originals.
Love Sculpture split up after recording two albums. Edmunds went on to number one hit success with “I Hear You Knocking”, and collaborated heavily with ex-Brinsley Schwarz bassist Nick Lowe, eventually forming the band Rockpile with him.
Another great band from England. If you care for lyrics, this band will get to you. Every song on the albums are worth listening. They were later known as Fairfield Parlour, continued with the same quality of music.
Album information:
(1967) - Tangerine Dream
(1969) - Faintly Blowing
(1971) - White-faced Lady
Band information:
Having performed since 1963 under the name The Sidekicks, they became The Key in November 1965, before settling upon the name Kaleidoscope when they signed a deal with Fontana Records in January 1967 with the help of the music publisher Dick Leahy. The group consisted of Eddy Pumer on guitar, Steve Clark on bass and flute, and Danny Bridgman on drums and the vocalist Peter Daltrey, who also played various keyboard instruments. Most of the band's songs were compositions of Pumer's music and Daltrey's lyrics. While the group did not achieve major commercial success in its time, it retains a loyal fan-base and its recordings are remembered in high regard.
The band's first single "Flight from Ashiya" (b/w "Holidaymaker") was released on 15 September 1967 by Fontana Records, a little earlier than the band's first albumTangerine Dream. The song was telling about an impending plane crash. The single got critical acclaim and quite an amount of radio airplay but failed to reach the charts. Years later, the song has appeared on many compilation albums, including Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond, 1964–1969, the second box set of the Nuggets series and Acid Drops, Spacedust & Flying Saucers: Psychedelic Confectionery. Two months later, Tangerine Dream - also produced by Dick Leahy - was released. The album included "Flight From Ashiya", "Please Excuse My Face" and "Dive into Yesterday" which are now considered some the band's best songs. Meanwhile the band were aired performing live on several BBC radio shows. A new single was released in 1968 called "Jenny Artichoke" (b/w "Just How Much You Are") that was inspired by Donovan's, "Jennifer Juniper".After the release the band traveled around Europe, and when in Netherlands supported Country Joe and the Fish at the Amsterdam Concert Hall. Faintly Blowing, again produced by Leahy, was released later, in 1969 by Fontana Records. This time the band's sound was heavier but the tracks still included psychedelic elements with notable lyrics but it failed to reach the charts. After the failure of Faintly Blowing, they released two more singles and, after a radio session in BBC Maida Vale Studios, the band took a new name to avoid confusion with the US group.
I remember listening to Joshua for a very long time, especially the song "You Still Hide". Joshua is a hard rock band that I believe would fit on this blog. Enjoy this great band.
This album is for those who like native music, or music by the natives. Beautiful music. I've collected 26 songs and put them together in the album, enjoy it!
An unlucky band Gandalf (see the band information), this album is more of a cover album, including beautiful versions of "Hang on to a Dream" and "Golden Earrings". Relaxing tunes, listen to their versions of the songs I mentioned.

05 - You Upset the Grace of Living
06 - Can You Travel in the Dark Alone

Band information:
Gandalf were an influential late 1960s psychedelic rock group. They were an American band originally called the Rahgoos and formed by Peter Sando, Frank Hubach, Bob Muller and Davy Bauer.
They signed a record deal with Capitol Records in 1967. Producers Koppelman & Rubin were not happy with the bands name, and suggest that it be changed. Despite being against the bands will, and losing local fan recognition, Davy suggested the name "Gandalf and The Wizards", which ended up sticking as "Gandalf".
They recorded their first and only LP the same year. The record includes covers of Tim Hardin, Eden Ahbez and Bonner & Gordon (the writers of "Happy Together") and two songs composed by the band's guitarist Peter Sando.
But Capitol spurned them and only released the LP in 1969 with the wrong record inside the sleeve. The copies were recalled and damaged the band's career. Capitol didn't promote the record which made the sales worse.
Over the years the album's reputation grew and it was re-released by Sundazed records in 2002.
